For employers in the United States
Menopause at Work
Philadelphia makes menopause a protected class from 1 January 2027. Rhode Island already has. The duty is manageable. The manager conversation is where most organisations freeze. This programme trains that conversation, and covers the one subject other programmes leave out.
01 Why now
The law has arrived, and so has the evidence
The law
From 1 January 2027, Philadelphia employers must provide reasonable accommodation, on request, for perimenopause and menopause symptoms that substantially interfere with work. Rhode Island added menopause to its accommodation duties in 2025.
Careers
42 per cent of working women say their health has limited their career in the past five years. 15 per cent of women with menopause symptoms have decided against a promotion or leadership role (Gallup and Pivotal Women’s Health Survey, 2026).
Knowledge
More than one in three women first learn what menopause symptoms are while experiencing them (Gallup and Pivotal, 2026).
Cost
Menopause symptoms cost the United States an estimated 26 billion dollars a year in medical costs and lost work time (Mayo Clinic Proceedings, 2023).
02 The programme
Four parts. One standard.
Every element is built to The Menopause Society’s workplace consensus recommendations and mapped to the Rhode Island and Philadelphia accommodation duties.
Launch keynote
Fifty to sixty minutes for the whole organisation. What is happening, why it reaches work, what changes now. Live or virtual.
Employee pathway
Six modules, text with audio, about three hours at your own pace, plus one live session. Includes the module on desire, pain and intimacy that other employer programmes leave out.
Manager pathway
Two ninety minute workshops. Receiving a disclosure, running the interactive process, the accommodations that work, what to say and what never to say, and how to record it. Every manager leaves with a one page conversation guide.
Human resources pathway
A half day working session with a model policy, workplace notice, accommodation request form, workflow and manager training record.
03 Compliance
What the law requires, and where it lands
Reasonable accommodation on request
Rhode Island and Philadelphia. Covered by manager workshop two and the human resources workflow.
Written notice and posting
Rhode Island. Covered by the human resources templates.
Managers able to recognise and respond
Counsel guidance under both laws. Covered by the manager pathway.
Policy and benefits review
The Menopause Society consensus recommendations. Covered by the human resources pathway.
Employee education
The consensus recommendations. Covered by the employee pathway.
This page describes what the law says. It is not legal advice. Employers should confirm their obligations with counsel.
04 Equity
Who gets treated, and who does not
Only about one in four women with menopause symptoms receives any treatment. White women use hormone therapy at about twice the rate of Black and Hispanic women. A workplace policy applied evenly is one of the few levers that reaches every woman, whatever her income or insurance.
Sliding scale
40 per cent of list price for non profits, the public sector and employers whose workforce is mostly lower paid.
Spanish
A Spanish language employee pathway within six months of the first sale.
Access
Materials built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA. Audio transcribed. Live sessions captioned.
Templates
Released free to any employer under a menopause accommodation law.
05 Standards
Standards a funder can check
Evidence
Every claim sourced to a Menopause Society position statement, the consensus recommendations, peer reviewed research or the law itself. A full reference list comes with every engagement.
Measurement
Outcomes defined before delivery. The Menopause-Specific Quality of Life questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index at intake and exit, voluntary and de-identified. Retention of women aged 45 to 60 tracked as the main employer outcome.
Governance
An advisory panel is being formed: a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, an employment lawyer, a patient advocate and a human resources leader. Results will be published in an annual public report, whether or not they are good.
Boundaries
Education only. No diagnosis, no dosing, no claims about symptom relief. Managers are never trained to ask about medical or sexual health detail.

07 Who delivers it
An educator, beside a clinician
Hope is a founder, author and keynote speaker on menopause and desire. She built the School of Sexual Wellness, an Australian education company. She is not a doctor and does not present herself as one. Every treatment statement in the programme is sourced to a Menopause Society position statement, and the programme is designed to be delivered alongside a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, whose recruitment is under way.
Menopause at Work is education, not medical or legal advice. It is built to The Menopause Society’s published recommendations and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the Society.
Train the conversation before the law arrives.
Philadelphia’s duty starts on 1 January 2027.
